Love Your Pet Day

Love Your Pet Day

Love Your Pet Day was set aside as a day to celebrate all pets and as a time to pamper your cat or dog to show them just how much they mean to your life.

Not only do pets make wonderful companions, they also benefit our lives in a number of ways – from helping improve self-esteem and reducing loneliness to helping human beings relieve stress.

Whether or not people are familiar with all of the advantages that come from owning a pet, we don’t know, but we do know that more people in the U.S. own a pet than those who do not.

So, what are some ways that you can shower your animal companion with a little extra love this year? The Barking Lot did some digging and came up with a few fun ways to spend the day or any day!

Offer Them A Special Treat

Most animals love treats. It’s a yummy break from the traditional everyday foods that they eat and more importantly, when offered on special occasions, it’s a great way to say, “I love you.”

Make A DIY Pet Project

DIY pet projects are projects that you and your pet can make together. Maybe your dog’s old bed is a bit tattered and torn or maybe he could use a new food dish. Grab some material and a sewing kit or add a few sparkly jewels to your craft and “Viola” – you’ve instantly transformed that regular old bed or dish into a special keepsake for your pet.

Take A Walk On The Wild Side

You and your pooch are probably used to the routine walks you take on a daily basis. To celebrate the day, try exploring a new trail or going to a dog-friendly beach. Pets love to explore new surroundings while experiencing new sights, smells and sounds.

Make Homemade Dog Biscuits

Here’s a fun activity that your pooch is sure to love! There are tons of pet-friendly recipes online that are a healthy and good for them, too. The best part of making homemade dog biscuits is that it creates some pretty special bonding time between you and your pet.

Do Some Pet Pampering

Show some Pet Day love by treating your dog to a day at the spa. Maybe you were already considering getting Fido’s fur trimmed or his nails cut – so what better time to do it? Many doggy daycares offer professional dog grooming and other dog services to keep your pet looking and smelling his best.

While, we recognize that February 20 is a time to honor that special animal in your life, we know also that no one day is enough to express just how much you love your pet!
