Fall has arrived! With it comes the change in seasons with autumn leaves, shorter days and holiday feasts. Chances are you’re planning to include your dog in all of the family fun and festivities as part of the family. To help you get into the spirit, we’ve come up with some activities that both you and your pet can enjoy together this fall.
Check Out the Local Orchard
Fall is when apples are usually at their ripest. This is a good time to take the dog and pack up the family for a trip to an orchard near you. Not only do apples help clean your dog’s teeth, they’re also high in fiber as well as Vitamins A & C. Just remember to remove the seeds before your pooch indulges in this sweet, succulent treat.
Visit a Pumpkin Patch
Dogs love a good adventure and a pumpkin patch is a great place for fall fun and festivities. Before you head out, make sure it’s a pet-friendly venue and that your dog is trained and socialized. This will help remove potential risks to your pet and others at this family-focused event.
Enter a Costume Contest or Visit a Pet Parade
First things first. You’re the best judge as to whether your dog is willing to wear a Halloween costume. If so, make sure the costume is comfortable and breathable for your pet. Remove any clothing that is too tight or causes heavy breathing or panting.
Next. Have fun! Halloween and other fall festivals are meant for your enjoyment. Let your dog prance around while judges and onlookers marvel at the creativity of his costume. Don’t forget the collar and the dog tags in case you and your pet get separated.
Take a Hike
The natural change in weather and scenery creates optimal conditions for you and your pet. If you have an outdoorsy dog, a hike is a great way to expel some energy while spending quality time in nature. Check your dog’s physical fitness level and make sure he has plenty of flea and tick protection prior to your outdoor escapades.
Bake Yummy Fall Treats
What dog has ever turned down a tasty teat? Fall is the perfect time to pull out the oven mitts and cook up some pet-friendly fiddles for your pooch. There are tons of pumpkin-inspired recipes online that your pet will love – and will love him back. Some popular ones include Pumpkin Spice Puppuccinos, Pumpkin Cheesecake Dog Treats and Pumpkin FroYo Bites.
