Summer is still over a month away – and the birds are singing, flowers are blooming, and the weather outside is finally starting to warm up.
Make sure Fido doesn’t miss out on all the season’s fun by planning your spring time activities now. Here’s a list we found of the some of the best dog parks all around.
The 319-acre park is known to the locals as “Chicago’s Front Yard,” but also acts as the city’s geographic hub. Grant Park houses famous landmarks like the Field Museum of Natural History, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Adler Planetarium. It’s a popular venue for events including The Taste of Chicago, Lollapalooza, and the Chicago Marathon.
But what your pet might be most excited about is the South Loop Community dog park. Situated just west of Columbus Avenue, .43 acres of land provides him with more than enough open space to roam free. And no need to worry about your pooch running off and getting lost – Grant Bark Park is double-gated and fully fenced in. And when he gets thirsty, there’s a drinking fountain dedicated just for dogs.
Montrose Dog Beach
What better way to cool your heels (or paws) than by going to the beach? The first beach to legally say “I doggy do” to unencumbered visits by your canine counterpart, Montrose Dog Beach is situated near the shoreline of Lake Michigan on Lake Shore Drive and offers a “fun, clean, safe beach experience,” for your pet. The fences that run along opposite sides of the beach are designed to keep your pooch from escaping during play, while owners enjoy amenities like volleyball, kayaking, showers and restrooms.
Visit Montrose Dog Beach for year round fun in the sun.
With just over 8 acres of space to play, Hamlin Park is home to Legends Field, two tennis courts, a basketball court, fitness center, assembly room and several clubrooms. The park also contains a designated dog-friendly area.
Mary Bartelme Park/West Loop Dog Park
Once the site of an old infirmary, Bartelme Park is an acre full of fun for your pet! Located in the West Loop community, this park has a designated area just for dogs and features a sunken dog park, doggy fountain, canine exercise area, ramps, ledges and a sitting area.
