Let’s face it. Dogs love treats. And it’s even better when they’re homemade, prepared with your pet in mind and done with love.
While it may not be convenient as just stopping by the local pet store and picking up a box of dog biscuits, making your own doggy treats has its advantages.
You never have to worry about any additives or preservatives, you get to pick the ingredients that go into his treats and you end up saving more money in the long run.
So, in case you’ve thought about making goodies for your dog, but weren’t exactly sure where to start, The Barking Lot added a few recipes below that are deliciously simple and good for your dog, too.
Peanut Butter and Pumpkin Dog Treats
With the holidays right around the corner, this is the perfect treat to cater to your pet’s fall cravings. Just add two eggs, cinnamon, salt, whole wheat flour, canned pumpkin and peanut butter. Mix everything together, roll into small balls of dough and serve.
Sweet Potato Dog Chew Treats
We’ve decided to add another fall-themed homemade dog treat to our list. And these pet chews are sure to inspire lots of puppy love. All you need are two to three large sweet potatoes, sliced thick so they keep most of their consistency. Place them on a greased baking sheet, cook and dehydrate for about 8 hours. The result is a thin, crispy treat that will delight your dog‘s taste buds.
Banana Dog Doughnuts
This perfect little pup treat just looked too good to pass up. And it’s great for celebrating your pet’s birthday – or any other occasion. Simply mix together whole wheat flour and baking powder, then add an egg, mushed banana, buttermilk and honey. Stir and pour into the doughnut pan of your choice. For a special treat, add dog-friendly frosting made from Greek yogurt, honey and (natural) food coloring. These doughnuts look so good, you may just want to try a few yourself.
Chicken Dog Treats
For those meat-loving pooches out there, we opted for these yummy chicken dog treats. To prep, you’ll need an egg, chicken – diced into tiny pieces, cooked and mashed rice, parsley and rice flour. Mix everything together and spoon into a silicon mold. Bake until golden brown and voila! Your pet will be chowing down on these tasty chicken treats.
